Job Openings

The Network Needs You!

Two Camping Network Executive Committee openings require your thoughtful consideration as we seek nominations to be voted on during the regional gathering.  They are: Vice President, ND Representative.

Please consider who you might nominate to serve the network as part of the executive committee.

The Camping Network is a member of the Minnesota Materials Exchange Program, an online network that connects organizations who are in need of or trying to get rid of "stuff."  Check it out at www.mnexchange.org.  Contact Ruth for user name and password.
 On hallowed ground

What is it like to stand on “hallowed ground?”  Outdoor ministry professionals attending the 2006 ELCA Outdoor Ministries Conference were invited to consider this question in a fitting location – Gettysburg, PA.  After all, Gettysburg is the location of one of the biggest, deadliest battles in the American Civil War and was referred to as “hallowed ground” by Abraham Lincoln in his famous 1863 Gettysburg Address.  A rich sense of history and reverence was experienced by all who attended this event from October 25-29!  Our first field trip led us to Camp Nawakwa in Arendtsville, PA and was a highlight of the conference experience.  What an amazing treat to listen to joyfully animated and amazingly gifted Camp Nawakwa Director Marianne Brock as she faithfully witnessed and filled us with the Holy Spirit, leading us through “Camp Songs through the Ages!”

“On Hallowed Ground” especially hit home as Marv Nysetvold of Mount Carmel Ministries,  Jon Hoyme of Shetek Bible Camp and I toured the battleground and listened to the story of the historical battle unfold.  Just as God told Moses to remove his sandals because he was on “hallowed ground” when he encountered the burning bush, I also felt humbled to be traveling along the same path as the soldiers who lost their lives in 1863.  Each year I also feel humbled to have the opportunity to spend a short time in the company of so many gifted people who work in outdoor ministries.  Although we have moments in our work that seem like running across an open field with little hope of reaching the other side (like Picket’s Charge at Gettysburg), let us remember that we have the power of grace, faith, love and hope to lead us safely through the battle.  I would like to extend a special thanks to the entire 2006 conference planning committee for creating an opportunity to be encouraged, renewing our passion for ministry and inspiring professional growth.  Grace and peace to you all as you humbly go about your work on whatever “hallowed ground” you find yourself each day.

Hurried, Harried Camp: Caring for Relationships in the Midst of the Rush

Come to Park River Bible Camp, Park River, North Dakota for this year’s Region 3 gathering to be held December 4-7.  If you haven’t registered already, there is room for you!  The staff at Park River are pleased to host the gathering, and have put together a program that will inspire you and feed your soul.  To ease the pain of a long drive for many, Park River will give a $50 cash award to the camp the travels the farthest distance!  Plan now to make the trip; the gathering will be even better if you’re a part of it.

Keynote speakers will include Judy Bultman, Paul Hill and Dave Hunstad.  Judy Bultman is both a Katrina victim and Lutheran Disaster Response leader – she will speak on “Relationships within Chaos.”  Paul Hill, affiliated faculty at Luther Seminary and developer of outdoor ministry curriculum within the CYF program, will be speaking on “Hearing God, Hearing One Another.”  Dave Hunstad, proprietor of Old Lutheran, will close the gathering with “Bringing it Home.”  Nationally known musician Peter Eide will be with us and provide a special concert.  Other entertainment will be provided by you and your outdoor ministry colleagues!  So pack your “talents” and leave your inhibitions behind.  Worship, workshops and free time options will round out our time together.  (Don’t miss out on the Halls Potato Warehouse tour!)  To download a copy of the gathering brochure and registration form, visit www.r3campingnetwork.org.  Hurry!  Registrations postmarked by November 27th receive a $10 discount.
